Speaking Up helps!

Today I got to learn that you can change the thought process of others to some extent if you speak up!
I was waiting in the long queue for the 461 A.C bus at Borivali station. I wait in this queue every day as a part of my long commute towards office.

Initial days of standing in this queue were full of disappointments with people breaking the queue, someone would pierce in the middle by showing fake gestures to make believe others that they know some person already standing in the Queue. Some people feel nothing about this unfair act and choose to keep quite. Some people want
to remain calm as not to disturb their already disturbed moods further. Some are simply ignorant.
I used to be one of these ‘some people’ but not anymore.

As the bus was late by half an hour (as usual), the queue was growing too long in no time. When I stand in the queue for a long time, I get acquainted to the visual presence of others standing in the queue. I notice the dresses, hairstyle, stylish bag packs and purses and any such entertaining stuff.

After looking here and there and entertaining myself for a long time, I noticed group of 4 ladies suddenly getting ‘attached’ to the queue in the middle from nowhere. They were not standing there before and suddenly appeared.
And before I was trying to figure out from where they suddenly appeared , 2 guys came and joined them looking around to check as if no one noticed them.
I guess it was a family going to some function because ladies were extremely adorned with heavy saris and way too much jewelry.

But come on! Attending some function does not mean you ‘ghusofy’ in queue and behave as if nothing has happened.

I just asked the person standing ahead of me ‘were these ladies here before? Are they standing in the Queue now?’
He was so slow with his response as if he did not care if someone shouted ‘bomb!’. He said, ‘yes they were not present in the line’ and continued to be in his world.
I felt helpless with the lack of support from the fellow passenger.

But my request for help was answered! ..of course not by God but by the person standing behind me.
He said, ‘yes they are breaking in the middle’.

Till now, one more guy had joined that invader group. The guy behind me could not stop himself and shouted ‘oh uncle, line main aayiye’( ‘oh uncle , please stand in queue at the back’) with no shame the guy answered ‘we are in one family, I am just joining my family standing here already’.

Actually the truth was none of them were practically standing in the queue.
And to my surprise , the girls , near whom these ladies were standing did not say nothing.

The guy behind me did not believe in giving up, he shouted again ’10 more people will come saying they belong to your family.’ The intruder leader said rudely ‘yes many more will come.’
Actually the guy behind me was fighting alone so I thought of supporting him.
I said addressing to the leader of intruder group ‘uncle please stand in the line, we are standing in line since long before you came and its unfair to everyone already standing in the line.’
He got the message, without further remarks, he said ‘ok ok we are standing in line’ and he only pulled out the other male member from the Group and went behind to the end of queue.
The ladies did not move an inch. They kept talking , ignoring other people who were
staring at them for their unfair behavior.

I was all the more surprised. What is this? Were these ladies privileged by BEST bus or something? That they are allowed to stand anywhere in the Queue?
‘Nothing doing’ I said to myself and went near them and told them ‘please could you also go and stand in the queue?’
One of them said ‘humne bolke rakha tha ki 6 log aane wale hai’ I asked ‘aapne kisko bola hai?’

I knew she was lying because there was no one in the queue whom they knew. She did not have the answer, she still said ‘abhi Family main hi bolnege na kisiko toh jagah rakhne ke liye.’ That was irrelevant answer.
I knew she was saying anything that came to her mouth at that moment. I felt I should not say any further to these already shameless people.

I wished I had energy and patience to make them understand the definition of Queue. In Technological term Queue works on FIFO concept(First In First Out ) and there’s no insertion in the middle allowed.
Guess these ladies were neither techies nor civilized enough to respect others standing in the queue.

They stood there, as if nothing happened. I looked at them with ‘you unfair, shameless ladies!’ look many times but they seemed to ignore me.

After a while the guy behind me started talking ‘if just few people speak up, it does not help.’
I said ‘yes that’s true and especially if the next person is shameless then she will not even listen.’

The girl behind also opened mouth now and said ‘we should not allow them to enter.’
Soon the bus came, and to my surprise.. as everyone slowly started getting in the line, the ladies stood aside by themselves. They did not enter until people actually standing in the queue entered the bus.
May be they finally felt ashamed, may be they thought about it and revived their conscious.

It felt so good, to know I was not a victim of unfair behavior again by just speaking up a little bit!

Garbage Collection

If you are a techno-freak like me. (Correction: more techno than freak..because I am more on the freak side!)
You must have heard of Garbage collection techniques used in Programming languages like Java.

Garbage collection is nothing but a way of managing the memory by deleting the unused(out of scope) piece of data.
It makes the memory free from time to time, so that Java programs can run efficiently with enough memory. If there was no Garbage collection,Java Program would have had a tough time really!

Thinking of which, if only we had such a Garbage collector in our brain…
It would collect all the cribbing, disappointments and totally useless thoughts and would free off some of
the space for us to be filled with fresh new thoughts.

Pros: We would think fresh and would not have indulged in cribbing over and over again on the same topics.
Cons: Conversations and for that matter even people would not have been interesting, because there would be no cribbing at all!

Well..one point to note, even in Java, the garbage collector has its own will to run and collect the garbage created by us!(programmers!!)

So my thought is, we do have a Garbage collector in our brain ..that has a will of its own..and that has made a choice not to run.. ever..

Real..Fictional and a Third Dimension

Lately I have been doing a lot of thinking about Real life characters and fictional characters and why you like them in real or fictional world.

These characters could be a pet, a friend, a partner, some celebrity who's a role model, some actor, painter, singer..a
family member..or fictional characters from movies or serials or books , for that matter cartoon characters also!

What makes us like a certain character playing in front of our eyes..in a 'real' movie.. or in a movie called 'real life'.

And how do we know whether a fictional character is 'Real' or a 'Real character' is fictional.
Or there is really no difference?

Is there a pattern that we follow when we like these characters?
Do we like the same characteristics in all those whom we admire and adore? Is this got to do deep down with our own characteristics?

Do we tend to like fictional characters similar to the characters in real life?

What about characters we meet in real life. Are they real in 'Real' sense.
How different they are from fictional characters?
What if they are portraying something they are not. At least with fictional characters you know its the way they are displayed or outlined.
There's nothing hidden inside them of their own.

All fictional characters are two dimensional but to real characters , there exists a third dimension that is under their own control. They can show it or hide it from the world.

Does that mean real characters are actually fictional characters with a 'third dimension' ?
